बेनी–बाबियाचौर सडक खुल्यो
MYAGDI, September 30
The Beni–Babiyachaur road section has reopened for traffic after remaining obstructed for four days due to recent heavy rainfall.
The resumption of transportation on the road connecting three local levels in western Myagdi to the district headquarters, Beni Bazaar, has brought relief to local residents.
The Infrastructure Development Office repaired a 16-kilometer stretch from the district headquarters Beni to Panabagar via Babiyachaur, the administrative center of Mangala Rural Municipality, restoring vehicular movement as of Tuesday evening. Additionally, a 24-kilometer road connecting Dhaulagiri, Malika, and Mangala Rural Municipalities of Myagdi, as well as Tamankhola Rural Municipality of Baglung—under the jurisdiction of the Gandaki Provincial Government—has been repaired from the Beni–Darbang side up to Bangepahiro.
The blockage, which began on September 26, had significantly disrupted daily life across the western region of Myagdi.
Resham Bahadur Jugjali (Subin), Member of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly elected from Myagdi 1(B), informed that heavy equipment was mobilized through the Infrastructure Development Office to clear the Beni–Panabagar section. He added that two-way repair work has been intensified along the Panabagar–Ranabang–Dukhu–Ratodhunga–Tolabang–Bangepahiro section.
“In coordination with the Chief Minister and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure, we are working urgently to restore traffic, manage rescue and relief efforts, and normalize daily life,” MP Jugjali stated. “We managed to clear the road up to Babiyachaur within three days.” He further shared that he is personally monitoring the site, deploying locally available equipment across Mangala, Malika, and Dhaulagiri Rural Municipalities to accelerate repair efforts.
Chief District Officer of Myagdi, Ganesh Gaire, stated that coordination is underway among elected representatives and authorities across local, provincial, and federal levels following a decision by the District Disaster Management Committee to expedite road repairs within their respective jurisdictions.
Meanwhile, following the recent floods, erosion by the Kaligandaki River has damaged sections of the Beni–Jomsom–Korala road—a vital trade link with China—including Tilkenichaur, the access road to the bridge at Pokharebagar, and Khambhitta.
CDO Gaire noted that a technical team dispatched by the Federal Government arrived in Myagdi on Tuesday to inspect the damage and initiate repair works. The closure of the Beni–Jomsom road has completely severed transport connectivity with Mustang, affecting imports and exports through the Korala border point. Furthermore, local farmers face severe challenges in transporting apples and mountain goats (Chyangra) to markets ahead of the major festivals. The obstruction has also impacted Hindu pilgrims traveling to Kagbeni for ancestral rites (Sorah Shraddha) as well as autumn season tourists.
