SUNSARI, October 2.
The Dharan Agricultural Produce Market Management Committee has reported a 15 percent increase in goat trade compared to previous years, driven by the upcoming festival season.
According to Lakshman Bhattarai, Chairman of the management committee, approximately 160,000 goats were sold through the market in the fiscal year 2025/26, generating a transaction volume of nearly NPR 3 billion. During the festive season alone last year, transactions reached NPR 460 million, a figure expected to rise further this year.
The Dharan market serves as a primary trading hub in Koshi Province, drawing farmers and traders from hilly districts like Dhankuta and Panchthar, as well as lowland areas including Itahari, Kanepokhari, and Belbari. Beyond providing a reliable venue for livestock sales, the organized market contributes to local commerce and employment generation across the region.
