Kathmandu, Sept. 18: The government has recommended ambassadors for 13 countries, including India, China, the United States and the United Kingdom, following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Friday.
The Cabinet recommended Nischal Nath Pandey for India, Kalyan Raj Sharma for China and Chiran Jung Thapa for the United States. Former Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana has been recommended for the United Kingdom.
The other recommendations are Jigyan Kumar Thapa for Japan, Suresh Kumar Karn for Israel, Prapti Sherchan for Spain, Sharu Joshi for Germany, Padmakshi Rana for Oman, Chudamani Kharel for Malaysia, Professor Sangam Shrestha for South Korea, Dr Manchala Jha for Sri Lanka and Giri Bahadur Sunar for Saudi Arabia.
The recommendations include professionals with backgrounds in foreign policy, academia, security, development, public administration and other fields, according to Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal.
The nominees will now undergo parliamentary hearings. Following parliamentary approval, the government will seek agrément from the respective host countries. The President will formally appoint the ambassadors after the required procedures are completed.
The recommendations come after a prolonged vacancy in several Nepali diplomatic missions. The government had earlier invited applications for ambassadorial posts in 13 countries through an open process.
