बागलुङमा पहिरोमा १० जनाको मृत्यु
BAGLUNG, September 28 — Heavy and continuous rainfall over the past two days has triggered devastating landslides and flash floods in Baglung and Tanahun districts, resulting in ten confirmed fatalities, one person missing, and extensive property damage.
According to Superintendent of Police Phanindra Prasai of the District Police Office, Baglung, landslide disasters accounted for nine deaths and one missing person on Sunday, following one fatality reported on Saturday.
Taman Khola Rural Municipality: A landslide buried a residence, killing 80-year-old Buddhi Raj Gharti and 66-year-old Bhim Devi Gharti. Eight homes in the area were swept away.
A house was buried by debris, claiming the lives of 50-year-old Hastabir Sripali and 65-year-old Udisara Sripali. Hastabir’s wife remains missing.
Nisi Khola Rural Municipality: Four members of a single family died when their home was buried: Shyam Kumari BK (36) and her three sons—Manoj (13), Mukesh (8), and Nishan (3). A landslide collapsed a cattle shed, killing 50-year-old Surya Bahadur Gharti.
Tara Khola Rural Municipality: Man Bahadur Roka (59) died on Saturday after his house was buried.
Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Acharya stated that early warning systems helped prevent further loss of life. A joint security team, supported by a Nepal Army helicopter, was deployed to conduct rescue operations in the affected zones.
Infrastructural Damage across Tanahun
In Tanahun district, continuous rainfall damaged 24 homes across six local levels, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dwarika Prasad Ghimire.
Damage was recorded in Vyas Municipality (5 homes), Giring Rural Municipality (6 homes), Bhanu Municipality (5 homes), Bandipur Rural Municipality (4 homes), Myagde Rural Municipality (2 homes), and Rishing Rural Municipality (2 homes).In Vyas Municipality-1, a local rice mill sustained damage, soaking 100 bags of paddy.
In Bhimad Municipality-6 (Malebagar), floodwaters swept away a poultry farm and a piggery.
Police teams have relocated all affected families to safer locations, and detailed loss assessments are ongoing.
Flooding at Sita Cave Complex in Devghat
In Devghat Rural Municipality-5, rising water levels in the Gandaki River flooded the Sita Cave complex, destroying key structures and washing away stored supplies, rest equipment, and a carved Omkar monument featuring 108 Shivlings.
Following the incident, a police deployment from the Devghat Area Police Office successfully evacuated the 76-year-old resident priest, Shivananda Giri, to safety.
