पृथ्वी राजमार्गका विभिन्न स्थानको पहिरो हटाउने काम तीव्र
KATHMANDU, Sept 28 — Continuous efforts are underway to reopen various blocked sections of the Prithvi Highway, where traffic has been disrupted due to landslides and road washouts triggered by relentless heavy rainfall.
According to Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, clearance operations are currently in progress at Chalise (Gajuri Rural Municipality-2) and Bangemod (Gajuri Rural Municipality-5) in Dhading district. Officials stated that clearing the highway completely will take some time due to the massive volume of debris and mudslides.
Spokesperson Subedi further informed that traffic can resume on a single-lane basis at Krishnabhir once the debris at that location is cleared. However, regular traffic movement along the segment remains restricted as clearance efforts at Chalise and Bangemod are still underway.
“Although single-lane two-way movement can be facilitated at Krishnabhir after clearing the landslide, vehicular movement along the highway remains challenging due to pending clearance work at sites like Chalise and Bangemod,” Spokesperson Subedi said.
Traffic police have warned that ongoing rainfall presents a continuous risk of fresh landslides from above, which could further complicate traffic operations.
Meanwhile, relentless rainfall and subsequent landslides and flooding have completely halted traffic across seven national highways connecting the Kathmandu Valley, including the Prithvi Highway, BP Highway, and Kanti Highway. Police said efforts to clear the blocked routes are being carried out in coordination with relevant government authorities.
Clearance work is also ongoing along the Kanti Lokpath at the Thingan and Pharping–Fakhel sections. According to traffic police, vehicular movement on the BP Highway remains heavily affected, with floodwaters and landslides washing away diversions at key points including Mamti, Piple, Daunne–Kalopul, Charsaybesi, Katunje, and Chowkidanda.
In light of the widespread road blockages, traffic police have urged travelers and drivers to use alternative routes and check road condition updates prior to setting out. Police have also requested the public to avoid non-essential travel during active rainfall due to the persistent risk of landslides on hill roads.
On the Dakshinkali–Sisneri road section, light vehicles and passenger SUVs (such as Tata Sumos) are currently operational. Heavy vehicles are being rerouted via the Tribhuvan Rajpath, Spokesperson Subedi added.
Traffic police noted that vehicles on both the Dakshinkali–Sisneri route and the Tribhuvan Rajpath are being managed on an alternating, time-slot basis. The arrangements are being adjusted dynamically based on road conditions, traffic volume, and weather developments.
With primary entry and exit routes to the Kathmandu Valley disrupted, long-distance passengers remain stranded along various highway stretches. Police have urged drivers and commuters to remain patient, refrain from attempting to forcibly cross blocked road sections, and follow safety updates and guidance issued by traffic authorities.
