MAHENDRANAGAR, September 30
A pillar of the suspension bridge connecting Dodhara-Chandani over the Mahakali River in Kanchanpur collapsed this morning.
Movement across the bridge connecting Bhimdatta Municipality and Dodhara-Chandani Municipality has been completely halted following the collapse, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Rawat of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur. Approximately six meters of the bridge section will require repair. The halt in movement has caused significant inconvenience for local commuters.
“A 5-to-6-meter section on the Dodhara side of the suspension bridge raised upward, disrupting movement, and the road has been blocked due to the collapsed pillar,” DSP Rawat stated, adding, “A police team has been deployed to the area.”
Built two decades ago, the suspension bridge played a crucial role in geographically connecting Dodhara-Chandani with the country’s mainland.
Ram Bahadur Bohara, Ward Chairman of Bhimdatta Municipality–13, stated that a technical team will visit to inspect the bridge. “The pillar collapsed this morning due to the strong current of the water,” he said. “Movement has been suspended following the damage.”
