Salt Trading Corporation Limited has brought fair price shops (supath mulya pasal) into operation in Banepa and Dhulikhel of Kavre, targeting major upcoming festivals including Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath.
Operated with the objective of intervening against potential market price hikes during the festive season and providing daily essentials to consumers at affordable rates, these fair price shops have seen a growing rush of shoppers purchasing festival supplies.
The fair price shop operating at the Corporation’s distribution center in Tindobato, Banepa, will remain operational until the Chhath festival. The shop will open seven days a week, including Saturdays, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
According to Surendra Awale, Office In-Charge of the Salt Trading Corporation Banepa Branch, a special price list has been set. The price of salt has been fixed at Rs 24 per kg and sugar at Rs 100 per kg.
Similarly, a 25-kilogram bag of Bhansaghar Steam Jeera Masino rice is priced at Rs 2,580. Various other brands of rice, including Mangalam, Palki, Nischal, Natinatini, and Bahuli, have also been placed on sale with discounts.
According to the price list, Musuro lentil is being sold at Rs 140 per kg, Rahar lentil at Rs 210, Maas lentil at Rs 205, and Chana lentil at Rs 155 per kg. Mung lentils, various types of beans, and pulses are also available at discounted rates, he informed.
Flour and maida of Manshree and Siwalik brands, millet and buckwheat flour, as well as maize and barley grits (chyakhla) are available for sale. In the ghee and oil segment, DDC Ghee is available at Rs 1,140, Shanti Mustard Oil at Rs 380, and Tripti Mustard Oil at Rs 270. Sunbeam Sunflower Oil has also been put on sale.
Additionally, spices such as organic garlic, ginger, cinnamon, chili, and turmeric, alongside various brands of tea, are in stock. The Corporation stated that concessions are being offered on non-food household items as well.
Office In-Charge Awale shared that STC LP gas cylinders are available at Rs 2,165, Lunar 2000-Watt induction cooktops at Rs 4,960, and shopping bags at Rs 35. He urged consumers to conveniently purchase necessary goods at reasonable rates during the festive season.
Consumers have felt significant relief after receiving food items and household goods at cheaper rates in fair price shops compared to the open market. Ramita Nepali, a local consumer from Banepa purchasing goods at the shop, expressed that Salt Trading providing salt, oil, rice, and lentils at lower rates right before the festivals has provided immense relief to common people like her during a time of market inflation. She added, “This has made managing household expenses much easier.”
Salt Trading brought these fair price shops into operation starting Asoj 1 (mid-September) in view of the Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals. Salt Trading Corporation Limited is also running similar shops targeting these festivals in Birtamod, Biratnagar, Rajbiraj, Lahan, Janakpur, Birgunj, Hetauda, Narayangadh, Trishuli, Pokhara, and Baglung.
