Kathmandu, Sept. 7: A total of 1,355 bodies have been recovered so far from areas affected by the Bhotekoshi flood, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Of the recovered bodies, 98 have been identified and handed over to their families.
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 169 bodies were recovered in Rasuwa, 197 in Nuwakot, 70 in Dhading, 75 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 363 in Chitwan, 222 in Nawalparasi East and 221 in Nawalparasi West.
Around 4,996 people are still reported missing. The latest records show 1,967 Nepali nationals missing from Rasuwa and 2,340 from Nuwakot. About 100 security personnel and government employees and 589 foreign nationals are also missing.
Rescue teams have so far rescued 13,396 people trapped or stranded by the flood.
The authority said 6,672 injured people have received medical treatment. Of the 323 people treated at different hospitals, 228 have already been discharged.
Meanwhile, 3,533 flood survivors are staying at 39 temporary holding centres in the affected areas. These include 669 people in Rasuwa, 2,651 in Nuwakot and 213 in Dhading.
The government has deployed 21,402 security personnel for search and rescue, relief and security operations. They include 9,287 personnel from the Nepali Army, 7,912 from Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force.
The Bhotekoshi flood struck on August 26, causing deaths, widespread displacement and major damage to property in several districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan.
