Kathmandu, Sept. 17: Artisans, workers and technicians across Nepal are observing Vishwakarma Puja and Vastu Day today, worshipping Lord Vishwakarma, regarded in HinduVishwakarma Puja and Vastu Day Being Observed tradition as the deity of architecture, craftsmanship and engineering.
The festival is observed every year on Ashwin Sankranti. Factories, workshops and workplaces are decorated, while workers perform rituals and worship their tools, machinery and vehicles.
According to religious belief, worshipping tools on this day brings durability, prevents breakdowns and helps workers perform their jobs successfully.
Vishwakarma is traditionally regarded as a master architect. Hindu tradition holds that he built the mythical city of Dvaraka for Lord Krishna.
Vastu Day is also observed to recognize the traditional knowledge of Vastu Shastra and architecture. In recent years, interest in Vastu-based architecture and traditional settlement and housing practices has been growing in Nepal.
