NEPALGUNJ (Banke), Sept 22: The 159th edition of the historic Ramlila, established as a religious and cultural identity of Nepalgunj, is set to be staged again this year starting from Ghatasthapana.
Ramlila, which had been continuously held for 158 years during the Dashain festival, could not be operated last year due to the “Gen-Z” movement.
Santosh Kumar Kanodiya, Chairman of the Ramlila Management Committee, informed that it has been decided to stage Ramlila for ten days starting from the day of Ghatasthapana on Ashwin 25 at the Ramlila ground in Nepalgunj.
According to him, Ramlila will kick off with a grand procession (Shobhayatra). Preparations are underway to make the event more organized, effective, and grand this year. For this purpose, the committee has also formed various sub-committees.
“Ramlila is a tradition tied to the culture and identity of Nepalgunj. Although regular staging was affected for one year due to circumstances, preparations have been advanced with the objective that its continuity should not be stopped,” said Chairman Kanodiya.
To stage the Ramlila, a troupe of artists led by Radha Raman from Vrindavan, India, is coming to Nepalgunj. The troupe will present major episodes of the Ramayana and various stories related to the lives of Lord Ram and Sita in a dramatic style.
According to the committee, Ramlila will be staged every day from 8:00 PM to 12:00 midnight, starting from Ghatasthapana until Bijaya Dashami. Artists coming from Vrindavan will portray various characters and present key events of the Ramayana through the stage.
Having been continuously operated for a long time, this tradition is established as an important event connected with the religious and cultural identity of Nepalgunj.
