Kathmandu, Sept 23: The House of Representatives on Wednesday unanimously passed the Payment and Settlement (First Amendment) Bill, 2083, following a theoretical discussion.
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, who is currently overseeing the Prime Minister’s daily administrative duties, presented the proposal seeking consideration of the bill.
Responding to lawmakers’ questions, Minister Wagle said the amendment was introduced as part of efforts to improve the country’s economic system, particularly after the existing structure failed to adequately address issues such as systemic liquidity.
Lawmakers Sushil Khadka, Nitima Bhandari Karki, Prem Lal Chaudhary, Ganesh Paudel, Ninu Kumari Karna, Prem Bahadur Bayak, Yashuda Kumari Baral and Parashu Ram Tamang participated in the discussion.
While welcoming provisions aimed at introducing international digital payment systems in Nepal, lawmakers called for greater clarity on the benefits such systems would bring to the country. They also stressed the need to ensure secure and reliable digital transactions.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal directed lawmakers to submit notices of amendments to the bill in accordance with parliamentary regulations.
Meanwhile, the House was also informed through a letter from the Office of the President that Finance Minister Wagle has been assigned to oversee the Prime Minister’s daily administrative duties during Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s absence.
Prime Minister Shah is currently in the United States leading a Nepali delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
