Kathmandu, Sept. 22: Nepal defeated Thailand in the women’s kabaddi event at the 20th Asian Games currently underway in Nagoya, Japan.
In the first match held today at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium, Nepal beat Thailand 46–43.
Nepal trailed Thailand 24–15 at halftime. However, Nepal made a strong comeback in the second half, outscoring Thailand 31–19 to secure an overall 46–43 victory.
The win is considered significant for Nepal, as several expected results have not materialized in other events at the Asian Games.
Nepal’s women’s kabaddi team also won a bronze medal for the country at the previous 19th Asian Games. In the ongoing competition, Nepal is in Group B alongside Thailand, Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei. Nepal will next face Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei in the league stage.
Group A consists of Iran, India, Bangladesh and Japan. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.
